This program is uniquely designed to welcome learners from all backgrounds, offering both a comprehensive track for newcomers and an accelerated track for those with a prior computer science/ computer engineering degree. With performance-based admission, traditional barriers are removed, allowing learners to begin developing in-demand technical skills without completing a formal application. Through a hands-on curriculum, learners explore high-impact fields such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, cybersecurity, and more.
The pathway to full admission is simple and transparent. Learners are fully admitted to the MS-CS program after completing three 3-credit courses with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. This approach allows learners to demonstrate their readiness for graduate-level study while making meaningful progress toward the degree. After admission, the program can be personalized through specialized electives focused on AI, web development, data visualization, and more as well as research opportunities that support career growth in the rapidly evolving technology industry.

Ball State offers a performance-based pathway for all learners for the Master of Science in Computer Science. Get admitted based on your performance in approved courses - no application required.
Complete a 3-course pathway in programming, data visualization, and discrete structures and algorithms for credit. Achieve at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA and you’ll be admitted to the degree program.
