课程概述

Course 2 of Statistical Thermodynamics presents an introduction to quantum mechanics at a level appropriate for those with mechanical or aerospace engineering backgrounds. Using a postulatory approach that describes the steps to follow, the Schrodinger wave equation is derived and simple solutions obtained that illustrate atomic and molecular structural behavior. More realistic behavior is also explored along with modern quantum chemistry numerical solution methods for solving the wave equation....

Sir Thank you for letting me allow to hear your kind lecture, sir. Honestly speaking, it is too difficult for my poor head to understand, but I would try to continue to study and make efforts to understand this subject, sir. In 2025 at Osaka ( Japan ), we have Osaka Expo ( from Apl to Oct ). 30 years ago, we have had sevier major earthquake in Kobe ( Japan ). Almost 7000 people died. And perharps we would have another major earthquakes in 30 years. If you would have a schedule to come to Japan, I recommend you to watch NHK + video program " Capital City Earthquake" and " South Sea Trough earthquake " at internet in advance, sir. At Osaka, one prediction would be 1. South Sea Trough would break at Wakayama offing 2. Emergency Call will ring on your TV or cell phones, and P waves of earthquake will come. So you need to extinguish the fire and protect your body. 3. after 2 ~ 3 [s] when emergency call ring, S waves of earthquakes will come. protect your body, sir. 4. If you are safe then, please run away to high tough buildings or safe place, because in 1 hour "Tsunami" would come to Osaka City, 5.If you filled up in ground, please survive under 72 hours ( 3 days ). Rescue Team is searching your position ( if cell phone GPS is on ). Attention fire. 6. Please save your life, sir. If you have pet bottle water or emergency food in your bag, you would be more safe, sir. At the end of 19 century, Lord Kelvin culculated the age of earth, and that is one reason to lead discovery of Quantum Mechanics ( discover radiation and geothermal ). Quantum Mechanics and geothermal Energy and very slowly deformation and flow of Rocks in the earth is One Reason of Major Earthquakes, I suppose. In my childhood, I was educated faithful Catholic Fathers. They told us that "human would never defeat the nature, but also we must never forget the victims of major natural disasters. You should continue to make effort never to repeat the same mistakes." So I continue to study , sir. Only God know the future, but I think we must continue to make efforts to avoid the victims at natural disasters, sir. Please take care of yourselves and May God Bless You, sir. Thank you for your telling us Geothermal and Radiation and Quantum Mechanics, sir. sincerely,

This course on Quantum Mechanics is very particular and interesting.

It shows a lot about the degeneracy of states in Quantum Mechanics for atoms and diatomic molecules and comprehensively explains the spin-orbit coupling, a hard task to explain, learn, & understand.

In addition, it allows linking theoretical concepts with practical applications such as the understanding of the ground state, and that there is degeneracy for the different degrees of freedom not only in excited states but also in the ground state.

It shows practically the degeneracy in the n & the J quantum numbers. This course explains the splitting of hydrogenic atoms, and how are distributed the states according to the type of degrees of freedom, electronic, rotational, and vibrational ones.

Finally, the course addresses how some of those states can be excited thermally, and why others cannot.

I highly recommend this course for those interested in linking Quantum Mechanics to practical purposes and not merely the solution of the axiomatic part of the subject.

It has great exercises.
