In this course, you’ll explore the transformative possibilities that generative AI offers to businesses. We begin by examining how generative AI is reshaping industries, automating routine tasks, and driving innovation in customer interactions and strategic insights. Through a detailed real-world case study, you will see how a large, complex business successfully implemented a generative AI solution, turning it into a valuable productivity tool.

This course introduces the "See" phase of the See, Plan, Act framework. This framework is designed to help you explore each step of the implementation process, and learn how to connect generative AI with your own data to transform it from a general tool into a customized solution tailored to your specific business needs. By the end of this course, you’ll be able to identify and evaluate new opportunities where generative AI can create value for your organization, giving you the foundational knowledge to move forward with confidence in your AI strategy. This course helps lay the groundwork for the next phase: planning and executing a successful generative AI implementation in your business. This is the first course in the “Generative AI in Business,” a course series for business professionals interested in using generative AI to support, enhance, and amplify the work of their organizations.

In the first module, we explore the new (and sometimes radical) technical possibilities that generative AI brings to business. We will examine how generative AI can transform everyday business tasks across various functions and sectors. We begin by analyzing a typical day in the office---and see firsthand how these technologies can reshape workflows and drive innovation.

In this module, we take an in-depth look at a real-world business where generative AI is deployed in a complex environment. We'll examine the end-to-end process of designing and implementing a generative AI-based learning assistant at the University of Michigan, which provides 24/7 Q&A support to thousands of students. This case study will highlight key lessons on selecting the right business area for AI transformation, integrating the appropriate data, and deploying strategies to maximize value and ensure success---concepts that we'll expand and refine in the next courses.

In this closing module, we will unpack the case and concepts discussed so far, and explain the key terminology that defines the specifics of how generative AI functions. The course concludes with a guided case study that will assess your ability to leverage what you've learned to appraise appropriate generative AI applications. To access the course materials, assignments and to earn a Certificate, you will need to purchase the Certificate experience when you enroll in a course.
