课程概述

The course provides an introduction to quantum information at a beginning graduate level. It focuses on the fundamental understanding of how information is processed with quantum systems and how the quantum properties apply to computing and communication tasks. The course begins by presenting quantum theory as the framework of information processing. Quantum systems are introduced with single and two qubits. Axioms of quantum theory such as states, dynamics, and measurements are explained as preparation, evolution, and readout of qubits. Quantum computing and quantum communication are explained. Entanglement is identified as a key resource of quantum information processing. Manipulation and quantification of entangled states are provided.  Quantum information processing opens an avenue to new information technologies beyond the current limitations but, more importantly, provides an approach to understanding information processing at the most fundamental level. What is desired is to find how Nature performs information processing with the quantum and classical systems. The ultimate power of Nature in computing and communication may be found and understood. The course provides a modest step to learn quantum information about how physical systems can be manipulated by the laws of quantum mechanics, how powerful they are in practical applications, and how the fundamental results make quantum advantages....

The course on quantum information was a real eye-opener for me! I delved into topics such as entangled states, algorithms like Deutsch's algorithm and Pauli operations. Particular attention was drawn to issues related to quantum channels and discrete dimensions, which help to understand how interaction and information transfer occurs in quantum systems. I learnt about different types of quantum states, such as 𝜙+ and 𝜓+ states, and how quantum operations can affect these states. Each session was engaging and expanded my knowledge of quantum physics, making complex concepts understandable. Thank you so much!

The lecture on this fascinating subject of quantum information was presented with commendable technical depth. However, there is room for enhancement in the pedagogical approach adopted. A number of terms and tools were introduced without sufficient definition or context, which could potentially lead to confusion. While viewing the lectures does not directly facilitate the completion of the individual quizzes or the final examination, it does necessitate a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. This understanding often requires the exploration of various other resources, which, although demanding, fosters a profound comprehension of the topic. Nevertheless, a stronger correlation between the lecture content and the exercises would be beneficial. The exercises themselves are far from simple, requiring a solid foundation in advanced mathematics and information theory. However, they serve as an invaluable tool in providing a thorough introduction to the field of quantum information.

The course materials were very good. The lecturer was knowledgeable though it felt like he was explaining to some professor rather than beginners like us. I had to look around at other online lectures on YouTube to understand some topics. So, be prepared to learn from sources other than this to introduce yourself to Quantum Information.

This is an advanced topic taught by an expert in the field. I would love to have materials to read outside of the course.

Decent material but most likely will need to be supplemented with a textbook for a proper understanding. It would be useful if there were specific course notes or problem sheets for this course, or at least a specific recommendation for a textbook where we may find these. I had to find my own textbook for this course. Otherwise, assessment could have been more rigorous, perhaps with a more difficult final exam.

There were several topics and notations here that I would not have been able to make sense of without the assistance of AI, and the excellent book by Nielsen and Chuang on the topic. In fact, if you want to learn quantum computing and quantum information, you're probably better off just reading that book. Both the concepts and the math are explained much more thoroughly there.
