Analyzing and effectively utilizing Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is crucial for businesses and professionals because it provides a clear methodology for identifying inefficiencies and improving operational workflows. This course offers a visual representation of all actions both value added and non-value-added—required to bring a product or service from initial stages to the end customer. By gaining comprehensive visibility into these processes, businesses can pinpoint exactly where delays, redundancies, and unnecessary steps occur. Participants who complete this course will develop skills in analysis and strategic thinking, leading to actionable insights that enhance process efficiencies and deliver better results within their organizations.
This course is designed for team leaders, supervisors, and managers responsible for individuals and teams, as well as professionals in business process, supply chain management, and logistics across various industries. It aims to support those who oversee process improvements and operational efficiency in their organizations.
Participants should have a basic knowledge of process management. Team and process leaders are expected to have a solid grasp of process management tools and best practices to fully benefit from the course.
By the end of this course, learners will be able to identify the purpose and benefits of using Value Stream Mapping (VSM) in process improvement. They will utilize standard VSM symbols and notations to represent processes, material flows, and information flows. Additionally, learners will analyze completed Value Stream Maps to identify areas of waste and highlight opportunities for improvement.

Not enough mapping but too much focus on problem solving methodology instead. I would rather go through some bacis examples with the instructor, building actual maps.

Very practical and user friendly course and well delivered
Value stream mapping is a way to visualize all the actions needed to move a product or service from its initial stages to the end customer. In this course, it is used to make value-added and non-value-added work visible so you can analyze waste and find opportunities to improve the process.
When would you use value stream mapping?
You would use value stream mapping when you need a clearer picture of how work flows across a process and where delays, redundancies, or unnecessary steps are occurring. The course presents it as a practical method for examining the whole stream before deciding what to change.
How does value stream mapping fit into a broader workflow?
It fits into the part of process improvement where you first need to understand the current state and connect the main process, material, and information flows. In this course, the map becomes the bridge between observing how work happens and planning more structured improvements.
How is value stream mapping different from a basic process map?
A basic process map mainly shows the sequence of steps, while value stream mapping here is used to show the wider flow of processes, materials, and information from start to finish. That broader view helps learners identify waste and improvement opportunities, not just document the steps.
Do you need any prerequisites before learning value stream mapping?
A basic understanding of process management is helpful before starting this course. It is beginner level, but team and process leaders will get more from it if they already know common process management tools and best practices.
What tools, platforms, or methods are used in this course?
The course focuses on standard value stream mapping symbols and notations for showing processes, material flows, and information flows. It also uses current-state and future-state mapping as the main method for analyzing waste and planning improvements.
What specific tasks will you practice or complete in this course?
You will practice reading completed value stream maps, creating current-state and future-state maps, and using standard symbols to represent process, material, and information flows. You will also identify waste, highlight improvement opportunities, and think through how changes can be prioritized and tracked.
